The Troop 170 Legacy
Troop 170 BSA in Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania was originally founded in the 1930s and remained active until its disbandment in 1970. The Troop was reformed in 1985, and met at the Mt. Holly United Methodist Church until they disbanded in 2022. Throughout its history, the scouts of Troop 170 were given an opportunity to learn leadership skills, hone their outdoor / scouting Skills, gain life skills, and, most importantly, HAVE FUN while doing so. Many of the boys who joined Troop 170 took advantage of their opportunities and were able to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

*In addition to earning the rank of Eagle Scout, Zachary Redcay and Logan Huff earned all merit badges that were offered during their time as scouts.
Unfortunately, Troop 170 became victim to the same fate experienced by many other veteran scout troops from across the country. Although the troop was able to keep what members they had engaged, the declined interest in Boy Scouts and the lack of feeder membership coming from neighboring Cub Scout packs limited their recruiting capabilities. The lack of new membership, coupled with the effects of the BSA bankruptcy and Covid Pandemic, forced the troop leadership to make a very difficult decision: It was time for Troop 170 to disband.
Although their troop was being disbanded, the leadership of Troop 170 sought a way to continue their mission of helping scouts. The troop leaders decided to donate the troop’s remaining treasury to The Memorial Scout Camp in an effort to keep the “Spirit of Troop 170” alive by helping scouts from across the country. The MSC Board of Directors has pledged to create a “Legacy” in the name of Troop 170 BSA, Mount Holly Springs, PA. They have promised that the Troop 170 Contribution will be used to directly benefit scouts through the MSC Campership Program or the MSC Camping Essentials Program.
