The Luc Caron Legacy
Luc Caron was born on December 24, 1958, in Lewiston, Maine, where he lived for the entirety of his life. As a boy, Luc became an Eagle Scout of Troop 116, and continuously remained involved in scouting as an adult. His most notable role was as the Scoutmaster of Troop 160, which he served as for 25 years across two separate terms. He also worked in multiple roles at Camp Bomazeen, served as Abnaki District Advancement Chairman, and was a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. Luc was especially known in the Maine scouting community for the campfires he would organize and perform.
In October 2010, Luc became the founding chairman of Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp. Under Luc’s leadership, the organization secured sufficient funding to purchase the Memorial Scout Camp at Spectacle Pond by 2012, and subsequently broadened its purpose by creating the MSC Campership Program, MSC Camping Essentials Program, and Scouts Against Hunger programs. The success of the Memorial Scout Camp has owed much to Luc’s tireless work towards its goals and purpose, as a fundraiser and hands-on leader. Luc operated the MSC Trading Post and personally secured thousands of dollars for the MSC for fundraising efforts each year, while also being directly involved in all maintenance projects at the Memorial Scout Camp at Spectacle Pond.
Beyond his scouting service, Luc was also known for his contributions to the cable industry. Luc made a career in the cable industry, working as a service technician, supervisor, and HUB engineer in Lewiston, Maine. Luc’s contributions to the industry were recognized by the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers. Luc also raised a family of three children and had four grandchildren at the time of his passing.
On January 26, 2023, Luc Caron passed away. Shortly after Luc’s death, the board of directors of the Memorial Scout Camp decided to rededicate the organization in his memory, alongside Adam Beggs, Craig Goodwin, Joe & Julie Beggs, and Wayne Marley. To do so, the directors agreed to establish the Luc Caron Memorial Firepit to “Keep the Fire Burning”. Additionally, the directors agreed to establish a Luc Caron campership to be awarded to a scout who exemplifies leadership in their scout group and community.
