Dear Friends,
Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp is now ten years old. It’s hard to believe that a decade has passed since Luc Caron, Jeremy Bernier, Gina Beggs, Carl Gagnon, Alex Beggs, and Jim Leeman became the founding Board of Directors of the organization. At that time, the sole purpose of the organization was to establish a scout camp in memory of Craig Goodwin & Adam Beggs and to make it available for use at no cost. Since that time, the organization has grown into a fully functional independent scouting organization dedicated to “Promoting Wilderness Camping – Supporting Worldwide Scouting – Sponsoring Community Service”…“We’re Not Just A Camp Anymore”.
The following is a depiction of the achievements made by Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp over the past 10 years…
During its first 10 years of operation, Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp has blossomed into an organization that has far surpassed any expectations that the founding members could have ever imagined. With the end of 2020 comes the beginning of the next decade of evolution for our organization…We must “Be Prepared” for what the future may bring.
During 2020, the Corporation received income of $18,482. The expenses of the Corporation totaled $17,950. On December 31, 2020, the net value of the Corporation’s cash assets was $16,900. The estimated fair market value of the Corporation’s physical assets is $87,200. The total value of the Corporation is estimated at $104,100.
In closing, I would like to thank our past and present Board of Directors, our volunteers, and contributors for their efforts during the past ten years and count on their continued support in the future. During 2021, our organization must remain focused and dedicated to our purpose, as well as reflecting upon, and celebrating, the achievements of our first decade of operation.

The following is a depiction of the achievements made by Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp over the past 10 years…
- From the summer of 2010 until the summer of 2012, the MSC Board of Directors largely concentrated on organization and fundraising.
- On January 1, 2012, the MSC Trading Post was opened. The Trading Post is an eBay store that specializes in scout memorabilia. All proceeds from the store are used to support the Memorial Scout Camp and its programs.
- Since it opened, the store has completed 7,642 transactions and generated $67,837 in sales.
- The MSC Trading Post has been the primary source of revenue for the organization.
- In September of 2012, Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp closed on the purchase of a property that would become the Memorial Scout Camp at Spectacle Pond.
- Since the camp was purchased, several capital improvements have been made to the property, including; establishing two tent sites, replacing the post and beam foundation under the cabin, adding a deck to the front of the cabin, installing a metal roof on the cabin, installing vinyl flooring in the cabin, adding additional windows to the cabin, establishing a bunkhouse in the loft of the cabin, and installing a docking system at the waterfront.
- Since the camp opened, it has been used by numerous scout troops from Pine Tree Council BSA, Katahdin Area Council BSA, Daniel Webster Council BSA, and Girl Scouts of Maine. The camp has also been used by many scout families, private organizations, and members of the general public.
- In November of 2012, the Scouts Against Hunger program was launched. The program was designed as a food collection / donation program to benefit the Saint Martin De Porres Homeless Shelter in Lewiston, ME.
- In 2020, the program had to be changed due to the Covid 19 Pandemic. The annual food drive was canceled and a food purchase / donation program was put into place. We now supply the shelter with monthly food deliveries.
- Since it’s conception, over $25,000 worth of food and supplies have been collected or purchased and donated to the shelter.
- In January of 2013, the MSC Campership Program was launched. The program was designed to award camperships to scouts who exemplified characteristics shared with scouts and scouters who had passed away and were chosen to be memorialized by the organization.
- Since the program began, the list of camperships has grown to include the Craig Goodwin, Adam Beggs, Joe Beggs, and Wayne Marley Camperships.
- From April 2013 to present, $8,900 in camperships have been awarded to 42 scouts from across the USA and Canada.
- In August of 2013, our organization sponsored the first annual MSC CITO. A Cache In Trash Out event is a community cleanup effort conducted by local Geocaching Communities.
- Annual MSC CITO’s were hosted from 2013 to 2017
- During the 5 MSC CITO events, approximately 25 tons of trash and illegally dumped refuse was removed from roadsides and public properties owned by the Cities of Lewiston and Auburn, Maine.
- In March of 2014, $200 of playground toys were purchased and donated to Haitian refugee children. This donation was made in conjunction with the International Scout And Guide Fellowship and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
- In August of 2014, the MSC Camping Essentials Program was conceived. The program was designed to award essential camping equipment to scouts in financial need.
- Since October of 2014, we have purchased and awarded 9 pairs of hiking boots, 7 pairs of winter boots, 8 sleeping bags, 6 backpacks, and 1 pair of snow pants.
- 31 scouts from across the USA and Canada have benefitted from this program.
- In December of 2018, the organization purchased 20 sleeping bags for a scout group in Uganda, Africa.
