About the Organization

Picture
Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is incorporated by the State of Maine.  According to its bylaws, the purpose of the organization is to Promote wilderness camping experiences, Support the ideals and goals of the Worldwide Scouting Movement, and Sponsor community service and charitable events.

Incorporated on October 13, 2010, the organization's original goal was to establish a camp that would be free-to-use for all scouts. The organization received tax-exempt status on June 13th, 2011.  By September 2012, Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp had accomplished its first major goal - the purchase of a property on Spectacle Pond in Osborn, Maine.

After the establishment of the Memorial Scout Camp at Spectacle Pond, Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp's purpose began to evolve to what it is today.  During 2013 and 2014, four major annual programs were established - the MSC Campership Program, the MSC CITO, the MSC Camping Essentials Program, and Scouts Against Hunger.  These four projects, along with the continued operation of the Memorial Scout Camp at Spectacle Pond, continue to represent the backbone of the organization's work.

In October 2016, Troop 160 Memorial Scout Camp registered itself as a local group of the International Scout and Guide Fellowship, under the auspices of the Central Branch. The ISGF is a worldwide organisation for adults in support of Scouting and Guiding and who want to strengthen the dialogue between communities through community-oriented projects worldwide. The International Scout and Guide Fellowship is affiliated with both the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
